Decibel Magazine is hosting the exclusive advance stream of Diminisher Of Hope, the punishing new EP from Denver, Colorado-based metalcore quintet UNDER AUBURN SKIES, preceding the record’s release this Friday.
UNDER AUBURN SKIES’ Diminisher Of Hope EP showcases bleaker sound and more dejected lyrics, revealing a darker side of the band, while simultaneously raising the bar on their individual performances across the record’s six incinerating tracks. Diminisher Of Hope’s drums were recorded by Nick Nodurft at Rusty Sun Studios, the guitars and bass by Emilio Lujan, and the vocals and additional guitars by Jaxon Stunden at The Blasting Room. The EP was mixed and mastered by Chris Wiseman at Chris Wiseman Recordings and completed with artwork by Róbert Horváth at Holo Dreamz Designs.
Vocalist Sebastian Gorklo reveals, “Although this is far from the first lyrics that I’ve ever written, it is the first time I’ve brought full songs to fruition. A big part of this was learning about myself and how I write lyrically alongside a song. It’s really interesting to see the transformation of a song overtime; some things have to be changed and sometimes less is more.
“’World-Eater’ is my observations and feelings on the current state of division within our country, but outside of that, all the songs are inspired by specific people in my life. I wouldn’t necessarily say that the songs are about them, and at the same time they are the reason I wrote what I did. It’s not a critique of them as a person, it’s what I experienced and felt as we were in each other’s lives.
“The song that means the most to me is ‘Final Sin.’ I was shedding tears as I was writing some of the lyrics to it. The last couple years have been extremely challenging and transformative for me, due to a number of things, and I really explored the depths of myself. ‘Final Sin’ is a reflection of my biggest wound. On some sort of scale, these songs all mean one thing or another to me.”
Decibel writes with the EP’s premiere, “Lyrically heavy and emotional, yet musically both melodic and brutal, UNDER AUBURN SKIES have the metalcore bases covered here.”
